- FAQ

1. Who is Ecokruz? What is our Mission Statement?

We are auto enthusiasts. We live in perhaps one of the most exciting times with the “sharing” economy. Our initial goal was to create the largest network of automated car-sharing systems. Whether you want to save the planet or whether you just want to ride in style, we believe it should be accessible to all - "Eco", and provide for a more sustainable economy while being profitable for our partners.

Due to covid-19, we had to make a pivot and re-opened our business in 2020, focusing on full e-Commerce - EV chargers, charging stations and accessories. Our small team combines many years of automotive and entrepreneurship experience. We strive to make every transaction a successful venture for our clients, suppliers and our staff so you can relax, charge and continue to cruise "Kruz" along the way.

2. Why do I need a private in-home charger?

Save time and money charging at home. Have peace of mind knowing that your EV is fully charged before heading out the door. You may also benefit from tax credits. Buy and install by December 31, 2020 in the US and claim the credit on your federal tax return. Check with your local and federal tax guidelines.

3. How long does it take to charge up my car at home?

The time it takes to charge an electric car can be as little as 30 minutes or more than 12 hours. This depends on the size of the battery and the speed of the charging point. A typical electric car (60kWh battery) takes just under 8 hours to charge from empty-to-full with a 7kW charging point. The bigger your car’s battery and the slower the charging point, the longer it takes to charge from empty to full. Level 2 chargers are common public chargers at 240 volts and give you between 15 and 40 miles per hour. You can buy one of these from Ecokruz.

4. How much does home charging options cost?

To figure out your cost of charging at home, multiply your vehicle's kWh/100 miles figure by the electric rate for the time of day you'll most often be charging. That figure will tell you the cost per 100 miles.

You also can work from the total kilowatt-hours it takes to recharge the EV's battery. If an EV requires 40 kWh to recharge a fully depleted battery, and the rate is 18 cents per kWh, that's $7.20 for a fill-up.

The average cost for a gallon of regular gasoline in the US over the past two years was $2.35/gallon. Using 15,000 miles as the average amount of miles a person will drive in a year, the annual cost of gasoline for the average car will be about $1,400 per year. The average person driving the average EV 15,000 miles per year pays about $540 per year, or $45 per month, to charge it.

9. Are your products American made?

We are a USA Veteran own and led small business. Presently about 90% of our products are contracted with top-notch certified USA companies such as SemaConnect, Blink, Bosch, Wallbox and Juicebox. However there some smaller products and of course some components even in the American made products that are still sourced overseas. Rest assured even these products, such as the portable chargers and accessories have been vetted beforehand. However wherever possible we are trying to get to 90-100% American made.

10. I'm looking for a specific adapter for my 2008-2012 Tesla Roadster.

Being that this was one of the pioneers of EVs, prior to the J1772 becoming standard, there are only a few options. There is a "Tesla J1772 Mobile Connector" for roughly $750. You will want to contact your nearest Tesla official store, or there is an aftermarket adaptor called "The Can" you can look up. We do not carry these adaptors at Ecokruz however we look forward to carrying chargers and accessories when the new Roadster (2021) does come out.

11. How do I install one of these charging stations?

It is possible to install a charging station yourself however we highly recommend contacting a local electrician to have a professional install it for you. We are not liable for any damages caused via attempting to install a charging station yourself. Damages due to self-installation voids any warranty or return policies.

12. Do you offer any discounts or coupon codes?

Yes we do from time to time. If you are part of a EV club, organization or dealership, please contact us directly and we can assign a coupon code directly for your organization. For larger bulk orders, please contact us directly before you check out and we will assign you a coupon code as well.

16. Do you offer Charging as a Service (CAAS)?

Yes. Ecokruz is starting up a Charging as a Service (CAAS) model in 2023 that is gaining traction among companies in the electric vehicle (EV) industry. With more and more people adopting EVs, the demand for charging infrastructure is growing rapidly. CAAS is a solution that allows companies to provide EV charging stations as a service on their properties, to their customers, without having to bear the high costs of building and maintaining the infrastructure themselves. This model enables your business to focus on your core competencies while offering a value-added service to your customers. Ecokruz will help you take care of the rest from the commercial charger to installation.

17. Do I need to pay sales tax on my order?

We're a completely online e-commerce store so this depends on a few things, namely the State you live in and your transaction order. For the most part, most of our customers do not need to pay state tax and you will not see that on your transactions. However if you are making a large purchase say several commercial EV chargers, this will largely depend on your State and it's economic nexus. In those situations you may see State Tax on your transaction. When in doubt please contact us for a custom quote and order we can double check for you.
